DESCRIPTION

Innovation Team Research Manager (Part Time) description image
BACKGROUND
The City of Long Beach Innovation Team (i-team) in the Office of the City Manager consists of a small team of creators applying innovative strategies, research, and design methods to develop solutions to the City's most pressing issues. Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Long Beach i-team is one of 27 programs located in cities around the world. Launched in 2015, the Long Beach i-team works collaboratively with colleagues across city government to offer a different set of methods and techniques to innovate more effectively. The i-team is supported entirely by grant funding. This position is a grant funded position expected to be supported for up to 30 months.

DATA-DRIVEN JUSTICE (DDJ) INITIATIVE
The Long Beach i-team is seeking a part-time Research Manager (Program Specialist) to manage DDJ research analysis.

Long Beach is one of over 100 DDJ jurisdictions seeking to disrupt the cycle of incarceration. This past January, the City launched the "Justice Lab" to provide new tools to first responders to divert residents in need out of the criminal justice system and towards much-needed resources. The Laura and Arnold Foundation has provided the City funding to conduct a Feasibility Study and Randomized Controlled Trail (RCT) to evaluate the effectiveness of the Justice Lab's Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The overall goal of the MDT is to improve the service coordination deployed for frequent utilizers interacting with the criminal justice system.

THE POSITION
The part-time Research Manager will operate under the Justice Lab - Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to support the implementation of the Justice Lab's Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).  Through the support of University partners, a Randomized Control Trial (RCT) study will be carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the MDT model. The Research Manager will work directly with the Principal Investigator, Research Director, Data Driven Justice Project Manager, and Data Scientist overseeing the daily function of the project.

This position is grant funded for 30 months.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The part-time Research Manager will work with the i-Team to plan and implement the MDT approach and support the RCT program, including:

  • Assisting with the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of study participants (subjects);
  • Serving a critical role in the RCT and MDT data collection activities and data management;
  • Supporting research staff on data analysis activities;
  • Preparing and presenting study reports, including communications with funders, and dissemination of study findings.
